Many of the waterfowl we see wintering in Urdaibai come from Scandinavia, the Baltic countries and even Russia. In summer, The North provides these birds with vast, unpopulated areas in which there is abundant food for breeding. When autumn comes, the birds depart, heading south to avoid the low temperatures of winter when snow covers almost everything and food is scarce.
